More than likely you’ve heard of the floods that have happened in the greater Nashville, TN area. And, no doubt, there are a lot of stories of people and organizations that are helping anywhere and everywhere- this is one such story.
I had the opportunity to talk via phone with CrossPoint’s Creative Media Director Matt Singleton about their efforts this week.
Over 250+ volunteers have come out each day this week to help in their efforts in the middle-Tennessee area. Matt pointed out that this number isn’t indicative of the actual volunteers as there are more people that are attaching themselves to CrossPoint’s crews once they are out in their respective work areas. In fact, some other relief organizations have actually sent volunteers to CrossPoint because of the ease at which people are able to get involved with them verses their organization. As Matt put it, “We just have less red tape than other organizations.”
CrossPoint does a Serving Saturday once a quarter (Twitter hashmark #ServingSaturday), and it just so happens to fall on this Saturday. Tomorrow more than 2,000 volunteers will be joining the ranks of the CrossPoint flood relief effort, AND they’re going to do this EVERY week for next few Saturdays! For more on Servings Saturdays, check out this quick message from CrossPoint’s Director of Missions Ryan Bult:
One of the most amazing parts about this story is that CrossPoint is being the Church, in an area where they aren’t, technically, yet a church. CrossPoint is scheduled to open their 4th campus on May 16th in Bellevue, which is one of the areas hit most severely by the flooding. Matt told me that the flood waters were actually within a couple feet of entering the former Circuit City that they’re renovating for their Bellevue Campus.
WOW!
